Foods to fight Inflammation

I recently helped my husband put together a newsletter for his patients on Therapeutic Modalities to speed up the healing process as well as foods to fight inflammation.  Inflammation is a huge factor when you are dealing with pain.  Since we are a wellness-based Chiropractic clinic, we encourage natural ways to fight inflammation and increase mobility.

Basil infused Olive Oil
At the moment I am working on a few recipes to help fight inflammation.  One I have already shared is Earth Day Basil Pesto.  Basil, Garlic, Walnuts and Olive Oil are all inflammation fighting foods!!!

First I'll start with Herbs: (click the links for more healthy benefit info)
Chamomile
Basil
Rosemary
Thyme
Tumeric
Ginger

And now for a few more Inflammation fighting foods:
Dark leafy veggies
(ex: spinach, brussels sprouts and broccoli)
source
Citrus fruits
Berries
Carrots
Peppers (Cayenne is great!)
Sweet potatoes
High-fiber foods (ex: legumes and whole grains)
Olive oil
Walnuts
Garlic
Oily fish (Ex: salmon, anchovies and mackerel)

These are not the only inflammation fighting foods but it's a good start.  If you'd like to get the most out of your herbs, check out the Herbal Home Remedy recipes.

Avoid foods high in saturated fats such as fried foods and foods with a lot of sugar.  Both of these types of food have shown to increase inflammation.

Stay tuned for a few more Healthy Recipes to fight Inflammation!

  2. This is a great read as I sit here with another cold from the temperature changes that happen all too frequently here in NC. My 5 yr old son and I are walking time bombs when it comes to getting sick lately:( We do eat peppers, citrus fruits, spinach, garlic and most of those other things as well. I take zinc too. Although this post you wrote is for inflammation,I think health benefits overall of the items you listed above is great:)

    1. Jeannie, you would need to speak with your healthcare provider or pharmacist. There might be info online regarding contraindications for specific medications.

  7. Fantastic post! I have been on an anti infam diet for about 7 months and it has done what no doctor or medicine was able to!!! Was battling psoriatic arthritis and now I feel great - jogging again and no psoriasis. I also went gluten and refined sugar free. Hope you can stop by the enchanted oven (the irony is not lost on me) and say hi.
    xo,

  11. Thank you for such great information. I can see some places where I need to make some changes but I have found that eating well can make a world of difference. Two years ago I went off all my prescription meds for fibromyalgia, made some huge modifications in my diet and now only have 3-4 flares total all year long with the flares only lasting a couple of days at the most.

Thanks for sharing at on Healthy Tuesdays Blog Hop.

  12. Love this info. I have lupus and arthritis in my joints, and I like the fact I can use food to help heal my body, instead of just relying on pain medication to cover the symptoms. Thank you so much for sharing with Saturday Spotlight. Have a great week and come back soon!
