In case you missed "What is Real Food" here's a recap...
I know "Real" food may not seem like as much fun as the sugary, chemically, DIY recipes out there on the internet.  This is why REAL Food Friday is so unique.  This is the place to share your unprocessed, gmo-free, locally grown and/or fair trade posts. Here's a great reference from Food Myths.
We are trying to make a difference 1 recipe at a time!

If your post includes items like *margarine, *granulated sugar, *food dye, packaged baking mixed with ingredients that you cannot pronounce (betty crocker, duncan hines, pillsbury, bisquik, general mills) then it WILL be deleted.

Time to link up your Real Food posts!
The party runs from Thursday at 7pm EST through Monday at Noon.
Please follow your hosts and consider adding the Real Food Friday button.

Do You Have a Food Storage Plan?

There are many reasons to stock up on Long Term Food Storage items.  In elementary school, we were required to pack an "Earthquake Kit" every year of canned food.  Living in California, Earthquakes are always a possibility and it's best to be prepared Just In case.

Growing Organic food from Seeds can be easy.  we are here to help!

Food security is a serious concern.  Food prices have skyrocketed and "clean food" is even more expensive.  This is one of the many reasons we suggest people grow their own food using heirloom, organic seeds.  If you grow enough, can and preserve your extras.

Political unrest is another reason people stock up on food.  With so much going on in the world, storing a bit of extra food is an excellent idea.

Economic crisis is one of the most important reasons to store a bit of extra food.  GREECE is the perfect example.  I've read quite a few articles about the situation in Greece and most of them picture the BARE store shelves as people have rushed to purchase what they can.  If they had a bit of food in reserves, Or GROWN their own food, then they would not have to worry about feeding their family.

Economic crisis doesn't have to be a complete country meltdown.  It could be a loss of job, sickness in the family of an unexpected expense that leaves you short on income for a month or more.  If you have additional food storage, those unexpected occurrences wouldn't keep you from feeding your family.

Below is a video series (3 part) for storing food long term.  These are not my videos but I have found them useful.  This is a great way to store items such as RICE, BEANS and WHEAT 10+ years.  I used this method to store RICE and it worked PERFECT!

And now, for SUPPLIES.  For this project, I used  Buckets with Lids, Mylar bags with Oxygen Absorbers and Organic Rice in bulk.  I don't have one of those fancy bag sealers so we used an Iron.

My suggestion for BUCKETS is to go to your local hardware store.  Preferably not a "big box" store but a local shop.  Buying buckets online can be pricey.  **Links below are Amazon affiliate links.  If you use these links to purchase items, I might make a small commission.  Every penny helps!**

Next is the MYLAR and OXYGEN ABSORBERS

(10) 5 Gallon Genuine Mylar Bags (Made in USA) with 2000cc Oxygen Absorbers

Now you need FOOD to fill your buckets/bags!

Lotus Foods Organic Brown Jasmine Rice - Mekong Flower, 25-Pound Bag

Rice, Brown, Short Grain, Organic, 25# Bulk

Lundberg Eco-Farmed California White Jasmine Rice, 25-Pound

(No Pic available)

Lundberg Eco-Farmed California White Basmati Rice, 25-Pound

Great River Organic Milling, Organic Whole Grains Hard Red Spring Wheat, 25-Pound Package

Great River Organic Milling Organic Whole Grains Hard Red Spring Wheat, 50-Pounds

Great River Organic Milling, Organic Whole Grains Corn, 25-Pound Package

As I've said before, There may come a time that only those growing their own food will have food.  Growing your own and storing up a bit extra is a necessity.  If you have additional questions please feel free to ask!
